Yoshimitsu Akamine was born in Miyahira Haebaru, Okinawa Japan in 1943. In 1959, at the age of 16 years old, he began training in Matsumura Seito Karate Do under the late Grand Master Hohan Soken. He trained in karate and Kobudo under Soken for 22 years until Soken's death in late 1982. 1961 he demonstrated Rohai in the first Karate Kobujutsu festival in Naha under the auspices of the All Okinawa Karate Do Federation. Since Soken's death in 1982 Akamine Sensei has dedicated himself to preserving the teachings of his most revered teacher. The Matsumura Seito Hozon Kai is a preservation society devoted to the teachings of Hohan Soken. Akamine Yoshimatsu is the International Director (Kaicho) and a Kudan (ninth degree Black Belt). Akamine Sensei believes that, "we must not change Kata, not add other Kata and practice Kata correctly or we will lose the Kata from old days. Kata taught to Akamine Sensei by Master Soken are listed below. These are the only Kata taught by the Matsumura Seito Hozon Kai in their original form.
